Health Topics

Centro San Vicente has prepared a list of health related links to sites which provide information regarding general health, children's health, cardiovascular health and diabetes. We also have prepared a list of links to organizations that either work with the Center or provide the Center with much needed financial support.
General Health
Possibly the most popular general health site on the Internet, the world-famous Mayo clinic's Oasis offers information on a broad base of health topics, health quizzes, an "Ask the Physician" section and a huge reference library. A "must-visit" site.
Healthtouch claims to be "your one-stop source for health information and health services", and they do a pretty good job of backing up that claim. A unique feature is a listing of both prescription and non-prescription drugs, and their uses and side effects. Good links to further sources on the Internet.
Presented by Prevention magazine, the Healthy Ideas website offers great advice on nutritional matters, the health of your child, and women's health. Also included are helpful weight-loss quizzes and sound advice regarding natural healing remedies.
Organized into over 50 specialized topics, this electronic magazine offers helpful and easy-to-find information based on research studies conducted at universities and institutes around the world. Special sections are included for men, women, teens, and parents.
Children's Health
A comprehensive summary of information on educational and health care issues, this site is divided into easy-to-navigate sections: newborn, toddler, preschool and K-12. KidSource also has an archive of pertinent bulletins released by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
American Academy of Pediatrics
Straight from the doctor's mouth - by way of scientific research! An authoritative resource for parents, healthcare professionals, and anyone else interested in attaining the highest possible level of mental, emotional, and physical health for children.
A colorful and multifaceted site with a section just for kids! Provides a safe place for kids to find more about their bodies and feelings. Parents can find accurate information on issues ranging form child diet and nutrition to immunization.
A wide-ranging resource with and "Ask the Pros" section with reliable advice from pediatricians, counselors, psychologists, and nurses. Product reviews of new childcare products provide creditable information before you buy.
Great resource for information on the parenting process from pregnancy and childbirth through the teen years. This site also has several daily chat sessions where parents can discuss topics that affect themselves and their children.
Cardiac
This site is considered by many to be THE place to go to find out more about anything related to cardiac health and strokes. Included here is an extensive database of links to other healthy heart sites, information on support groups, plus an area for the kids so they can learn more about "Heartpower."
An excellent database of frequently asked questions regarding cardiac care is contained within this site. If the answer to your question is not contained in this database, you can e-mail your query to a team of doctors in Kansas. This site also has a free, monthly, healthy-heart newsletter.
This site is unique because it was written from the perspective of someone who actually suffers from a cardiac ailment. It includes wonderful insight as to what the patient actually has to go through on a daily basis; very inspirational and affirming.
A comprehensive site in both English and Spanish from the City University of New York that not only covers the basic cardiac health topics, but also provides information on the anatomy of the cardiovascular system, symptoms and warning signs of heart problems and brief descriptions of various cardiac medications.
Congenital Heart Disease Resource Page
This site provides a place for the parents of children with congenital heart disease to find information regarding the disease as well as tips on how to adapt to the lifestyle changes required by CHD. In addition, this site offers links to several support services and groups.

Sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, this site has a searchable index lets you either browse through the topics or find a specific topic related to Type I diabetes.

Diabetes.com screens the latest news and research on diabetes to keep you in control of the disease.
The official website for the American Diabetes Association contains the latest research information, information on diabetes education programs, a calendar of local diabetes programs, and an interactive quiz to determine if you are at risk for contracting diabetes.
