Health Education
San Vicente’s Puente de Salud health education and lifestyle promotion program is available for all clinic patrons and community members. Classes are offered in both Spanish and English. In addition to group classes, we offer individual sessions for diabetes management.
Programs
Diabetes Education Empowerment Program
These classes teach people who have diabetes how to manage their illness. Information on high blood pressure, cholesterol and exercise is also presented. This is a 6 week program in which the participants attend once a week for two hours each session.
Su Corazón, Su Vida/Your Heart, Your Life
This program focuses on the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease. Information will also be provided on nutrition, cholesterol, exercise, and weight control. Information on the effects of second-hand smoke/environmental tobacco smoke is also presented. This is an 8 week program in which the participant attends once a week for two hours each session.
Adult Smoking Cessation Program
This is a 10-hour smoking cessation program for anyone who has the desire to quit smoking. It teaches skills that improve the success of cessation, as well as act as a support system through the cessation process. Participants attend five, two-hour sessions. Under the care of a Centro San Vicente medical provider, medication therapy (nicotine replacement therapy) is also available for registered clinic patients only.
Comenzando Bien Prenatal Program
Group classes are offered in this 8 two-hour session course, which utilizes the Comenzando Bien curriculum developed by the March of Dimes. Join us to learn how to keep healthy during your pregnancy. Topics include nutrition, exercises, common discomforts, coping with stress, healthy weight gain, signs of labor, and so much more! Classes are offered in both English and Spanish. Support partners are welcomed to join you!
Cultivando La Salud/Cultivating Health
This program developed by the National Center for Farmworker Health is a one-time two-hour class offering information on breast and cervical cancer prevention and discusses the importance of screening practices.
Diabetes Self-management Training
If you want to learn how to set your own goals and learn how to manage your diabetes, this is the training for you. Come meet with a Certified Health Education Specialist to learn how to develop and monitor your self-management goals.

Community Based Research
If you are interested in partnering with San Vicente on a community based research project please complete an Investigational Studies Application inv-studies-applic-form.doc and submit to melissa.aguirre@sanvicente.org. The Investigational Studies Committee meets quarterly to review applications.
